Who is behind Schakel Ltd?

Schakel Ltd was set up in 2008 by Director Drs Hildegard Schakel to provide a range of Clinical Psychological Services.

Drs Hildegard Schakel’s early experience in psychiatric settings showed her the importance of diagnosis for conditions such as Asperger Syndrome and inspired her to specialise in diagnosing and treating the condition.

She believes that an accurate diagnosis, although not a cure, can help make a significant difference to a person with Asperger Syndrome and those close to them. Accepting and managing the condition can help a person with Asperger Syndrome reach their full potential - as the condition can bring not only limitations but gifts.

Qualifications

Drs Hildegard Schakel trained to MSc level in Psychology in the Netherlands and followed a further postgraduate qualification there, which is accepted in the UK as the equivalent of a Clinical Psychology qualification. She has practised in the UK since 2001.

She is a Chartered Consultant Clinical Psychologist, which means she is regulated by The British Psychological Society. She is also a member of the BABCP and is an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.

She is involved in running therapeutic skill-based workshops in the North West of England as well as in organising the annual conference of the Division of Clinical Psychology.
